1982 - Ditka's first year as coach of the Chicago Bears. In a strike shortened season, Ditka struggled through a 3-6 season.

1983 - In Ditka's second season, the Bears improve to 8-8 one game behind division winner Detroit but fail to make the playoffs.

1984 - Bears win NFC Central Division , beat the Redskins 23-19 in divisional playoffs, earning them a trip to Candlestick Park and a 23-0 thrashing to the 49ers.

1985 - The bears dynasty begins as they post a 15-1 regular season record (lost to Miami)
They tear through the post season outscoring their opponents 91-10 and destroy New England in SuperBowl XX 46-10.

1986 - Bears go 14-2 but season ends in an early divisional playoff game 21-17 loss to the Redskins.

1987
- Bears post an 11-4 record and win the NFC Central for the fourth year in a row, but for the second year in a row lose divisional playoff game to the Redskins.

1988 - Another solid regular season for the Bears posting a 12-4 record. They beat the Eagles 20-12 in divisional playoffs ( Better known as The Fog Bowl ) but for the third year in a row, fail to make it to the Superbowl when they lose 28-3 to the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. * This would be the Bears last appearance in the NFC Championship game until 2006.

1989
- After winning five straight Central Titles the bears find themselves finishing 4th in the division and a losing season going 6-10 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 1983.* The Bears started the '89 season 4-0 before seeing themselves lose their final 6 games of the season.

1990
- The Bears rebound from a miserable '89 season by going 11-5 and regaining the NFC Central title. They would face the Saints in a Wild Card Match-up which they would win 16-6. Next up for the Bears would be the New York Giants in the Divisional playoffs.
The Bears were simply dominated by the G-Men in a 31-3 loss.

1991
- The Bears post a second straight 11-5 season but finish 2nd in the Central and earn a spot in the Wild Card game against the up and coming Dallas Cowboys. The Bears play a very tough game but once again come up short 17-13 and see another season come to an early end.

1992 - In what would be Mike Ditka's last year as Head coach of the Chicago Bears, they struggled through a 5-11 season finishing 4th in a Division they once dominated.
The end of a coaching legend in Chicago opened the door for new coach Dave Wannstet,
who, like so many since him, would struggle to find the consistency and success that Ditka had during his tenure in Chicago.

Maybe they should bring him back. They don't have a running game so he could make a trade with Miami to get Ricky Williams.
